About

This map is to tell the world about the victims of the international media inside Somalia ( الصوماليون‎). Al-Jazeera asked Somali citizens for information about how the war has effected them in 2011. Al-Jazeera put the information on a public website named "Somalia Speaks" and did not get permission from Somalis who wrote the messages. They published names and towns without their knowledge.

At least one person was killed in retribution for the information that Al-Jazeera posted online, and many more were harassed. Many families have fled their homes as a result.

The saddest part is that Al-Jazeera and also I-Revolution have denied their actions and this increased the suffering. They did not delete the names until after many days for some people and many names and locations are still on website.  Because Al-Jazeera and I-Revolution denied they exposed the names of people reporting about terrorist activities many families who tried to flee Somalia were denied asylum. Some other are missing and we fear they have also been killed.

We are collecting evidence that Al-Jazeera and I-Revolution did post information about people on "Somalia Speaks" and on their own websites, and we want to prove that they lied to cover this up. We cannot bring back the dead, but we can help those who are now seeking asylum for their families after the violence and harassment that they suffered.

If you have witnessed retribution for "Somalia Speaks" then please add this information to this site. We will not publish the names of people on this website but we will post the stories here so that the world knows.

Please tell us of other protesters against "Somalia Speaks" so that we can combine our knowledge.

We are not associated with the protest group Somali Voices but we believe that their statements are true:

1. Soud Hyder of Al-Jazeera published the names of people on the Somalia Speaks website and on television.

2. Patrick Meier of I-Revolution published the names of people on the Somalia Speaks website and on the I-Revolution website.

We are planning legal action against them.
